Year 2175. This new era of terrestrial existence has been improved by the development of technology as each generation surpasses. Today's generation is where people travel from space in just a small amount of time. As humanity evolves, other extraterrestrials also do. However, as technology develops, the needs of it also increases. These technologies require a large amount of substances to keep its economy evolving. Artisans of war travel from world to world in order to gather these resources. But humanity isn't the only one that needs these required resources. The opposing race, The Aliens, is also in-need of these resources to retain its evolving economy. A large group of asteroids that roams around between the planet of humans and aliens has a complete supply of resources which can keep a race from a complete obsolescence. However, these asteroids also have some creatures living on it who doesn't have technologies to harvest nor process these minerals.. They require an amount of processed minerals for them to allow a race to harvest their resources. They are also capable of war, if bribed higher by another race than the last bribe; they are strong enough to take a race's temporary territory away from their land.
As they continue from battling against a large group of asteroids, these races are rivals ever since the past, as these aliens became a threat to humanity, and humanity as a big resource income for aliens. They both plot to annihilate each other for these reasons and also to continue existing.
Components
•1 Game map (Split into two, two planets and 15 asteroids attached)
• Race Flags (Blue and Red)
• 8 Spacecrafts (4 for each race)
• 100 minerals (25 each for bronze, silver, gold, and emerald)
Component Overview
Game map
The game map depicts the group of asteroids and main planet of each race. Each race's primary planet is the starting point of each race. The game map is also used to track each race's progress. Note that the asteroids and the planets are glued to the game map. Removing these will damage the game.
Race Flags
These race flags signify ownership of a certain asteroid. If a flag (red or blue) is standing beside an asteroid, it means the ownership of it is currently under a race. Only one race flag can be placed on an asteroid.
These spacecrafts carry resources from one place to another, allowing you to move resources, capture a neutral asteroid, or steal ownership of a captured asteroid. Spacecrafts consist of 4 for each race, 2 reds and 2 greens, that can be used for bluff or fact movements to confuse the opposing race. Each green spacecraft of a race signifies one (1) action point.
Minerals
Minerals serve as money for each race, which can be used to take ownership of an asteroid, as well as to win. These minerals are composed of 25 bronze, silver, gold, and emerald chips. Minerals also serve as an amount an asteroid has, which will determine the minimum mineral requirement in order for a race to gain ownership of it. Each race can increase or decrease the amount of owned asteroid (which currently has a race flag on it) by using spacecrafts to carry a certain amount of resources on an asteroid to another asteroid.
Minerals can either split or combine into two:
2 bronze = 1 silver
2 silver = 1 gold
2 gold = 1 emerald
Note: emeralds cannot be combined. bronzes cannot be split.
Setting up the game
To prepare a game of Astral War, carefully follow the steps below.
1. Combine two parts of Game Map: Connect two parts of game map and place it in the middle of the table. The middle of the map should be the half circle combined into a whole circle, and the two opposite corners should be the blue circle and the red circle.
2. Place starting amount of planets and asteroids: Place 1 gold on primary planets (blue and red), 1 bronze on brown asteroids, 1 silver on gray asteroids, 1 gold on yellow asteroids, and 1 emerald on the middle yellow-green asteroid. These will represent the starting amount of each primary planet, and the amount each asteroid requires in order for a race to take owenership of it.
The game is now ready to begin.
Playing the game
Astral War is only applicable with 2 players. Each player will represent their chosen race (Humans or Aliens) which will compete to gather minerals to strengthen either their offense or defense.
Step 1: Decide your movement
Each player will start with a gold on their planet. He/she can decide his/her strategy. There are many ways to plan your way to gather more minerals. Either you obtain the territory of a bronze asteroid or two beside your planet, or pass — it's a player's decision.
Step 2: Place your spacecrafts depending on your plan.
Each race has its 4 spacecrafts. Two of them (represented as greens when faced up) are the ones that will show your movement. They are marked as one (1) that represents your first movement, and two (2) that represents your second movement. The other two spacecrafts (represented as reds when faced up) carry nothing and can be used as decoys for mineral transferring.
Players should place at least one (1) spacecraft on a face down position. After the players are done placing their spacecrafts. They should both face these spacecrafts up at the same time. these will represent their desired movement for this turn.
IMPORTANT: If both players' first (1) movement are moving on a same asteroid, the one that has a greater resource carriage will win the power to gain the asteroid (Remember that there are other neutral creatures living on asteroids and they require a processed mineral for them to let a player gain their resources. They will choose a higher offer and will decline the lower offer of another planet.
IMPORTANT #2: If a player's first (1) movement is to steal the ownership of an owned asteroid of another race, but the current resources gained from this asteroid's first (1) movement is moving to another owned asteroid/planet, the rule "Transfer first than Attacking" will take effect here. See rules section.
Step 3: Implement the movement planned by the player.
If there is no conflict between the movements of spacecrafts, the movements planned by the player will take effect. Move/change the current placement of minerals depending on actions taken by players.
Step 4: Gain minerals on primary planet.
If a player/race currently owns at least one greater asteroid, he/she will gain a specific mineral:
• If a player owns a silver asteroid, he/she will gain one (1) silver from his/her primary planet, instead of receiving bronze.
• If a player owns a gold asteroid, he/she will gain one (1) gold from his/her primary planet, instead of receiving silver/bronze.
• If a player owns an emerald asteroid, he/she will gain one (1) emerald from his/her primary planet, instead of receiving gold/silver/bronze.
IMPORTANT: if a player owns two or more asteroids of the same kind, he/she will still gain one (1) specific mineral (greatest asteroid he/she owns) from his/her primary planet.
Step 5: End of turn.
After all the movements have been implemented and all the minerals have been added/reduced on certain asteroids, each player will again collect their spacecrafts on the field, and a new turn begins.
Game End
When a player/race transfers a higher amount of minerals to opposing player's/race's primary planet. The game will end and the player who conquers the opposing player's planet wins.
Characters
There are two characters specified on a game that represents each group who will wage war against each other to achieve victory.
Human race
Labeled as the blue-colored faction on the map, they represent the humanity. Their objective against the opposing enemy is to exterminate them in order to attain peace on their own civilization.
